Stories:

Kathy, artist, age62 “I have been thinking a…certain kind of art-making, and even certain kind of nature, as kind of escapes and happiness.”

“You have asked me a happy moment… I almost, have lately seeking out a small escape… so.. even things to look at, when I look at artwork, sometimes it makes me feel bad, but sometimes it can be.. a kind of happy place. Ah.. and when I look at certain kind of plant, it is also very pleasurable. And, of course, sometimes when I make my own work, it makes me bad, but other times it can be very nice, kind of refuge. I’ve been thinking a lot of what makes me happy. (laugh) and, what can I offer? On the way of refuge, a little moment of escape. But, I’ve been thinking a lot of just reading and, certain kind of art-making, and even certain kind of nature, as kind of escapes. And some happiness in grace that has a little bit of religious tends to it. And the concepts of grace in most of the stories are of someone in a situation pretty extreme trouble, … you have a big dramatic tension, and the trouble somehow it’s released into a moment, inside or grace. And.. ah… maybe are those that.. a little, (smile)

Daniel, Craft beer seller, age24 “just spent next two hours sitting, playing my guitar, more or less singing to the sunset, and.. the stars and moon were above me, that was, that was pretty clearly probably ah… the panical happy part of my trip right there.”

“I can think about one specific moment that happened pretty recently and I… before this job I…I took some time to travel countries for five months by myself and I… spent a lot of days. National park hiking, camping with my car, and it happened to be in Arches National Park which is in Utah. And, the entire landscape of the places is beautiful, pictures if you got, almost looks like Mars, I mean the red color of rocks, you know, everywhere, you know……. And I was traveling around December time, so it was pretty cold, there weren’t many people beside myself, and I.. it was almost like I had the entire park by myself, and I can remember really clearly when I got there, someone was sitting on a horse, it was beautiful environment,  and I’m…  when I got there almost felt like I was a kid, and I hahahaha… I pretty spent much time to run around the places, I was, I was climbing up to all different rocks and trying to take pictures of sunset, it was, it was really peaceful and happy moment. And.. and I also had um, a little back bag, a guitar with me at the time, with my guitar, I went up.. Umm. I climbed up to about 2 or 3 hundreds feet by the rock, and I… kind of just spent next two hours sitting, playing my guitar, more or less singing to the sunset, and.. The stars and moon were above me, that was, that was pretty clearly probably ah… the panical happy part of my trip right there, so.. hahaha, it was ah… pretty, pretty beautiful experience.”

Ashely, Student, age 19 “I mean like happiness is not like… it is not something like special, but it actually comes from daily life, when you are not expecting it.”
